App Store Shake-Up: Apple To Split App Store Division Into Two Teams Amid EU Regulations, VP Departing in October

Apple is restructuring its App Store team into two units to comply with new EU regulations under the Digital Markets Act (DMA), with long-serving VP Matt Fischer stepping down and handing over responsibilities to Carson Oliver and Ann Thai.

New Delhi, August 23: Apple will reportedly carry out a significant restructuring of its App Store team by dividing it into two separate units. As per reports, the development comes in response to new European Union (EU) regulations under the Digital Markets Act (DMA). The restructuring is said to address the regulatory structure and enhance competition in the app distribution market.

As per a report of ABP Live, Apple is implementing a significant reorganisation of its App Store team. It will reportedly divide it into two distinct units as a long-serving executive prepares to depart. The restructuring effort might be to respond to the regulatory changes in the European Union. Additionally, Matt Fischer, the long-serving vice president of the App Store, will be departing from Apple.  Matt Fischer became a part of Apple in 2003 and played a key role in marketing and partnerships for iTunes. Recognising his contributions, he was promoted to the position of Vice President for the App Store. In his role, he reported directly to Phil Schiller. These changes are expected to have an impact on how Apple manages its App Store and iOS platform. App Store VP Matt Fischer reportedly said, "After 21 years at Apple, I’ve made the decision to step away from our incredible company." He further highlighted the importance of having a capable team to handle new challenges and opportunities and believed in handing over the responsibility to Carson Oliver and Ann Thai. The tech giant is said to establish separate teams to manage its traditional App Store and to manage alternative app marketplaces in the EU. According to reports, the development follows Apple's recent decision to partially open its platform to third-party app stores in response to new European regulations to increase competition in the app distribution industry.
