Amazon Workers ‘Strongly Dissatisfied’ by 5-Day Return-to-Office Mandate, Nearly 1,900 Employees Looking for Job Change: Report

According to a survey conducted after Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced 5-day return-to-office mandate, around 73% of the employees started looking for leaving the company and look for job elsewhere before January 2, 2025.

Mumbai, October 1: Amazon employees who do not appreciate the decision of 5-day return-to-office work by the e-commerce giant. Most of the employees who have enjoyed remote work are not satisfied with this move. This comes after Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced that the employees would no longer be allowed to work from home and have to follow a new "work from office" mandate effective from July 2, 2025.   

According to a report by CNBC, a survey suggested that around 73% of Amazon workers were not happy with the company calling them back to the office for a five-day shift. The mandate will be in effect starting from January 2, 2025, for the staff; however, some plan to leave the company before that time and look for another job. Amazon Asks Employees To Return to Office 5 Days a Week Starting January 2, 2025.

The report said that, according to a survey conducted by Blind of 2,585 Amazon employees, 73% said that they would look for another job after CEO Andy Jassy announced the 5-day full-time office mandate. This makes around 1,900 employees who are against the e-commerce giant's work-from-office announcement. The employees requested not to be identified. 

Around 80% of the surveyed professionals reportedly said that they knew colleagues who were looking for a job change because of the announcement. The report said that Amazon CEO Andy Jassy's announcement to return to the office was "blow to morale" to some employees and that the change would not impact the "parents" and "caregivers" who benefitted from the remote and hybrid flexibility during the WFH. Tech Layoffs 2024: Around 1.39 Lakh Employees Laid Off by 451 Companies This Year, More Job Cuts on the Way/

Another survey by Glassdoor highlighted that 74% of the workers were concerned about the future of their career at Amazon or elsewhere. Most of the Amazon employees expect that the leadership must reconsider the policy mandating work from the office for five days. The anonymous Amazon employees who participated in the survey were "strongly dissatisfied" with the decision taken by the company.
