Amazon Data Breach: E-Commerce Giant Confirms Hackers Stealing Employee Data and Publishing on Notorious Website
Amazon confirmed hackers stole critical data from the employees and started selling on a notorious website. The threat actor reportedly said releasing more data like never before.
Seattle, November 12: Amazon has reportedly confirmed that the employee data was compromised due to a hacking incident. The e-commerce giant said the data was compromised due to a security event at a third-party vendor. Despite the hacking attempt, the company spokesperson assured that the Amazon and AWS systems were unaffected.
According to a statement by Amazon spokesperson Adam Montgomery mentioned in a report by TechCrunch, the data breach compromised the data of the firm's employees. However, he said that Amazon and its Amazon Web Services were secure and did not experience any "security event." The spokesperson further said that the team had notified the proper management vendors about this data breach. The Amazon spokesperson also informed the customers about the data breach. Despite notifying these parties, the person said that the employees' data was mainly affected.
Adam Montgomery said the employees' work-related information included their email addresses, desk phone numbers, and building locations. The Amazon spokesperson did not confirm how many employees were affected by the latest data breach. The report mentioned that the third-party vendors did not have access to sensitive data like the individuals' Social Security Numbers or financial information. The report said the threat actor, who claimed to have the hacked information, published it on the notorious BreachForums website. Further, the cybercriminal said that 2.8 million data lines were stolen from the MOVEit Transfer last year. The report said the threat actor used the alias "Name3L3ss" to publish the information. The hacker said the published data was only 0.01% of his data. Further, the individual confirmed releasing 1,000 releases soon.
