The Indian women’s hockey team defeated Italy 3-0 in a pre-quarter cross-over match to make it to the quarter-finals of the Women’s Hockey World Cup 2018. Lalremsiami, Neha Goyal, and Vandana were the goal-scorers for India as they face Ireland next in the quarter-final. The 14th edition of the Women's Hockey World Cup is being held in England.

In the ninth minute during the opening quarter, Lalremsiami opened the scoring for India. The Indian team then maintained their lead through the second quarter as well and at half-time were leading 1-0.

In the 45th minute, India doubled their lead through Neha Goyal’s goal and looked on course for a win. In the 55th minute, Vandana made it 3-0 for her side and with that India stamped their authority over Italy.

Earlier, India had to fight their way into the knockout round after they drew their opening game 1-1 against England before losing to Ireland 0-1 in their second Pool B match of the prestigious tournament. However, they put up a spirited performance and settled for a 1-1 draw against the United States of America in a do or die third-round match to make it to the knockout stage. (Inputs ANI).
