Today’s special from Google Doodle Snow Games marks the fifth day of Winter Olympics 2018, by showing off a raccoon dog sliding into the Luge competition and winning it. Today’s doodle is the fifth in series of 17 doodles, which Google will be posting throughout the duration of the Winter Olympics.
The doodle displays a sleepy raccoon who has just woken up from his slumber, who accidently slides and takes a 300-foot drop down the natural track meant for sledging, and eventually winning the Luge Competition. The Raccoon Dog, with features like a fox, is a Korean native and can surpass a speed of 153 km per hour.
Luge is a winter sport where the participant, individually or in a team of two, ride a flat sled while lying face up and feet first. However, the participants do not have any external protection during the race apart from a helmet. It is one of the riskiest and fastest sport on ice. The participants are known to reach speeds up to 140kms per hour without any breaks. The doodle is visible on most Google homepages across the world.
It is the first time the Winter Olympics is being held in South Korea. The sporting even began on February 9 and will run until February 25, 2018.
