The BCCI a couple of days ago started their hunt for various positions in Team India. This also included the appointment of the new coach who will step into the shoes of Ravi Shastri after India’s exit from CWC 2019. Now, as per reports, Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli will have no say in the appointment of the new coach for the team. Rumours are rife that the decision is taken primarily due to India's ext from the CWC 2019. The final decision will be taken by Kapil Dev, and approved by the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA), the official said. Ravi Shastri May Continue to Be Team India Head Coach and Guide Virat Kohli and Co, Says BCCI Official.
As one may recall that Virat Kohli’s rift with Anil Kumble came out in the open and as per the official, the former Indian captain will not pay heed to the current skipper. “Last time, the captain (Kohli) had expressed his difficulty, or the team’s difficulty, with former coach Anil Kumble. In the new selection process, he will have absolutely no say with regards to who becomes the coach. This time, we have Kapil Dev in the coach selection committee, and he will not listen to him (Kohli),” the official, who did not wish to be named, said.
The source further said that the other members of the support staff will be selected by the selection committee which does not happen usually. Normally it is the head coach who picks the support staff. Ravi Shastri’s contract was valid until 2019 CWC and was given a 45-day extension which also includes India tour of West Indies which begins on August 3, 2019.
