Yuki Bhambri sprang a surprise when he defeated ninth-seed Lucas Pouille in the Indian Wells ATP Masters 1000 tournament, on March 12, 2018. The star tennis player from India raised everyone's eyebrows as he defeated his French opponent in straight sets (6-4, 6-4) in the second round of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells on Sunday.

Bhambri began strongly in the match and was leading the Frenchman 4-1 in the first set. There was no respite for Pouille in the second set too. Despite being a closely-fought contest, and scores reading 3-3 in the second set at a point in time, the Indian held his nerve and went on to win the set 6-4 eventually.

The 25-year-old was in a sublime touch as he defeated Pouille in a match that stretched over an hour and 19 minutes. This win happens to be one of the best victories in Bhambri's career.

Bhambri had taken everyone by surprise even when he had defeated Nicolas Mahut in the opening round of the tournament. The ace tennis player will now meet Sam Querrey in the third round of the tournament. Querrey was the semi-finalist in the 2017 Wimbledon. He beat Mischa Zverev of Germany in straight sets (6-4, 7-5) in his second round of the tournament.

The match between Bhambri and Querrey at ATP Masters’ third round is scheduled to take place on March 13. The match proceedings will begin at 11.30 p.m. IST. It will be interesting to see if Yuki Bhambri is able to stretch his luck further in the tournament. Will Bhambri be able to one-up his performance and register another upset at this years’ Indian Wells ATP Masters?
