Wimbledon 2018 Men’s Singles Final: Novak Djokovic Beats Kevin Anderson to Win 4th Wimbledon, 13th Overall Grand Slam Titles
This was Novak Djokovic’s fourth Wimbledon title, previously winning in 2011, 2014 and 2015.
Novak Djokovic wins his first grand slam in two years, after beating Kevin Anderson in straight sets at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London. The 31-year-old Serbian beat the eighth seed from South Africa 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) on July 15, Saturday in a match that lasted for about two hours and 19 minutes. With Wimbledon 2018 trophy, Djokovic now has 13 total grand slam titles and is currently fourth in the list of most number of major titles behind Pete Sampras (14), Rafael Nadal (16) and Roger Federer (20). It was an excellent win for Djoker Nole after having a lull phase for two years full of injuries and personal issues. Djokovic seeded twelfth in the year’s third grand slam was not a favourite to begin the tournament with. But the multiple grand-slam winner had it in him to add another if he continued to maintain consistency. Djokovic was dubbed a slight favourite going in the final against Kevin Anderson, the tall South African giant-killer who removed the defending champion Roger Federer in quarters and playing record-breaking semis against John Isner. It was probably the past head-to-head record of 5-1 (now, 6-1) and the experience of winning grand slam compared to Anderson’s inexperience of playing at this stage. Whatever it was, Novak knew he had the best chance of grabbing another major, and he did in fashion.
Anderson who was coming off two gruelling matches against Isner and Federer was not his 100 per cent fit as struggled with a sore right elbow. It was clearly visible in his display of erratic shots allowing Djokovic to win first two sets comfortably 6-2, 6-2. However, the 32-year-old Kevin pulled some trick in the third set and, in fact, had an opportunity leading at 5-4 to take the match to the fourth set, which he squandered allowing Novak to wrap the game in straight sets.

Despite being a winner at SW19 for these many times, the crowd were not very supportive of the Serbian, and frankly, even the Wimbledon 2018 champion did not care much. His frustration towards disturbing spectators was quite visible throughout the tournament. But in the end, it is Novak who takes the winner’s trophy and shuts his haters down. Earlier on Saturday, Angelique Kerber of Germany became the brand new Wimbledon women’s singles champion as she beat crowd favourite Serena Williams in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.
