A 20-year-old Naomi Osaka defeated Serena Williams in the US Open 2018 final, and hell has broken loose since then. After a New York Times report busted through Serena’s claim of women being penalised more than the men in the sport, his husband has jumped into the controversy. Things have only worsened since!

A can of controversies has opened up, all thanks to the 23-time Grand Slam winner’s outburst at match umpire Carlos Ramos in the Women’s Singles’ showdown at the Flushing Meadows. Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian Sr., came down heavily on the NYT report that busted through her lies.

On his Twitter account, Alexis wrote, “E.g. If men were punished 344 times out of 3440 audible obscenities (10% enforcement), but women were punished 140 times out of 700 audible obscenities (20% enforcement) -- that would mean women are penalized 2x more often than men for the same violation.”

Here’s what Alexis Ohanian Sr. has to say in her wife’s Serena Williams defence:

He didn’t stop there and went onto take a dig at the reporter who wrote it. In his next tweet, Alexis Ohanian Sr. said that he would be happy to fund an independent research team to find the actual analysis. He said, “Cc christophclarey - happy to help fund an independent research team to run the actual analysis! Statistics can be illuminating when you know what you're looking for.”

Here’s what Alexis Ohanian Sr. said to NYT reporter ChristophClarey:

The episode didn’t meet an end there, either, as Serena Williams’ husband tried to rub a little more salt into the wound. He also tweeted, “And so that some good comes out of this, I've donated $10 for every word (714) in that misleading article to @DonorsChoose classroom projects to make sure the next generation gets access to learn basic statistics. Thank you, @christophclarey.”

Here’s what Serena Williams’ husband had to say about the US Open 2018 Final Fiasco:

It doesn’t seem like the controversy has died down. With Serena Williams’ husband jumping in, it seems that the mess is going to be uglier. It seems like Williams’ thought of getting away with the ‘sexist’ remark didn’t turn out well, and the cause of the web of controversies is stemming from there.
