Roger Federer ensured he enters Wimbledon 2019 on a high note, as he mostly does, by winning the Halle Open title for a record 10th time. The Swiss star, who won the Halle Open 2019 by beating Belgium's David Goffin on Sunday, posted a selfie of himself with the trophy on social media picture sharing site Instagram. With this victory, Federer registered the 102th Singles career title in an already illustrious career which includes 20 Grand Slam titles.

Federer has looked in supreme form on grass and in the Halle Open 2019. He has had a couple of tough matches as well, especially the one against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, where he lost a set and was taken to the tie-break in the first set. However, the Swiss great warded off the challenge by Frenchmen.

Federer then met Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut in the quarter-final and beat him 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. However, Federer made light work of PH Herbert and David Goffin in the semi-final and final respectively to win the record extending 10th Halle Open 2019 title.

The win means that Federer will now enter Wimbledon 2019 in pursuit of record ninth Wimbledon crown with greater confidence about his game and fitness. Wimbledon 2019 will be played from July 1 to 15.

Speaking after the match, Federer  spoke on the domination of the 'Big Three'- Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and himself. "As long as me, Rafa and Novak are around it is not going to be easy for a young guy to come up and dominate," Federer quipped.

He also insisted that the younger players like Stefanos Tsitsipas, Borna Coric and Karen Khachanov and ATP tournaments should not be overlooked. "I think there is too much focus on the Grand Slams these days which isn't fair," said Federer. "In my day, it was a huge success to win your first Masters 1000 tournament and break into the top 10," added the Swiss legend. (With Agency Inputs)
