The rivalry was once again brought to the tennis court during the US Open 2019. Roger Federer was in action today as he played against India’s Sumit Nagal in the first round of the US Open 2019. The 22-year-old debutant lost against Federer after he stunned the 20 time Grand Slam winner in the first set. The match ended with the scoreline reading 4-6, 6-1,6-2,6-4. After the match, Federer walked to the presenters who pointed out at the scoreboard and said, “We change the ‘G’ and add a ‘D’ - did you think for a second it was Nadal?” With a smile on his face, Federer said, “No.” The answer brought him a lot of cheers and hoots from the attendees. Talking about the game, the youngster dominated the first set by 6-4 as Federer committed three double faults. Federer came back into the groove from the second set onwards. Despite the fact that the Swiss tennis ace, was giving his best, the Indian tennis ace made sure not to give up and put up a great fight. Sumit Nagal is the fifth Indian, to have made it so far in the majors.
