Rafael Nadal created history and broke his own record to lift the 11th French Open title on Sunday by beating Dominic Thiem of Austria. The Clay Court champion extended his dominance on the surface and showed why he is the greatest who has or may be ever play on the court.

The Spainiard thoroughly held his sway over the game and won the match by a thumping 6-4,6-3,6-2. The 32-year-old now has 17 Grand Slam titles out of which he has 11 French Open titles.

Nadal was at his athletic best, running across the length and breadth of the court, his game characterised by solid returns and double handed back-hands.

This is Nadal's first Grand Slam win with coach Carlos Moya. Now with the Grass season beginning, all eyes will be on Nadal and whether he can repeat the extra-ordinary feat of winning the Wimbeldon, as he did 10 years ago in 2008 in the extraordinary final against Roger Federer. He is also now only three slams away from the Swiss great in the all time tally of Grand Slams.
