Ace India tennis player Leander Paes celebrates his 46th birthday today, on Monday. The former world no 1 in Doubles' tennis turned 46-years-old today. Born on June 17, 1973 in Kolkata, then Calcutta, Paes turned Pro in the year 1991. In his long illustrious career, Paes also earned glory for India in the 1996 Olympics. He won a bronze medal in the men's singles tennis event at the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia on August 3, 1996. Paes has to his name 18 Grand Slam doubles titles, eight of which came in men’s doubles and 10 in mixed doubles.

Currently ranked the World No 77 in doubles tennis, the 46-year-old tennis player has won 54 titles in his career. Leander Peas career record so far is 763-448, which means he has won 763 matches in his career and lost 448.

Leander Paes reached a career high ranking of world number 1 in the doubles and is generally considered one of the best players to have played the doubles and mixed doubles.

Cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar also wished Leander Paes on the latter's birthday. The legend is known to share a good bond with Paes as their friendship goes back a long way.

Leander Paes was awarded the Padma Bhusan, India's third highest civilian honour in the year 2014 for his services to tennis. One of the biggest moments of Leander Paes' career was beating former Men's Singles World No 1 and eight time grand slam winning champion Andre Agassi.
