Leander Paes bettered his own record in Davis Cup as the veteran won his 44th doubles match while partnering debutant Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan as India took a 3-0 lead against Pakistan in the third match and secured the tie. The Indian duo defeated Mohammad Shoaib and Huzaifa Abdul Rehman 6-1, 6-3 as the youngsters were no match for them. The match lasted only 53 minutes as Paes and Jeevan brushed aside the young Pakistani duo to win the match. Paes-Jeevan held their first serve and then went on to dominate the young Pakistani duo to seal their first set. In the second set, the Indian pair had some chances to seal the match early but the Rehman-Shoaib duo showed some resistance. Paes’ record of 44 wins is unlikely to be broken anytime soon as none of the other active doubles players’ feature in the top-10 list. Belarusian Max Mirnyi is number three on the list with 36 wins but hasn’t played on tour since 2018. After Day 1 of the tie in Kazakhstan, India led the tie 2-0 after fantastic wins by Ramkumar Ramanathan and Sumit Nagal. India have secured the tie 3-0 but two reverse singles matches are still left in the schedule.
