Wimbledon 2019 begins from July 1 and it's that time of the year when tennis greats don pristine white short and shirt to compete in the most reputed and oldest grand slam in the sport. And in the run-up to this year's Wimbledon, we visit some of the most memorable moments from recent times at SW19. In this part, we go back to 2001, the year when Swiss great Roger Federer, then a 19-year-old boy on the circuit, caused arguably the greatest upset by beating American legend Pete Sampras in fourth round, Wimbledon 2001. It was the victory that propelled Federer into the limelight and was also the beginning of Federer's love affair with Wimbledon. The 2001 Wimbledon fourth round is also the only time when the legends Roger Federer and Pete Sampras played each other in a competitive match. The Swiss great beat the legendary American 7-6, 5-7, 6-4, 6-7, 7-5. Though Federer did not win the 2001 Wimbledon, he would go on to lift a record eight Wimbledon titles at the All England Club and be termed the "King of Grass."
