Indian shooters continue to have a merry time in Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games with Tejaswini Sawant winning a silver medal in women’s 50m rifle prone event. The day eight of CWG 2018 kicked off on a positive note after wrestlers Sushil Kumar, Babita Phogat and Rahul Aware made to gold medal matches. However, it is Tejaswini Sawant who won first medal of the day at Belmont Shooting Centre. India’s medal tally in CWG 2018 now advances to a total of 25 including 12 gold, 5 silver and 8 bronze with comfortable third place standing on the GC 2018 medal table.

The 37-year-old finished behind Martina Lindsay Veloso of Singapore to bag the silver medal in Women's 50m Rifle Prone Finals event. She shot a string of 102.1, 102.4, 103.3, 102.8, 103.7, 104.6 resulting in a total of 618.9. President Ram Nath Kovind took to Twitter to congratulate Tejaswini Sawant on the win. He writes, "Hearty congratulations to Tejaswini Sawant for clinching SILVER in Women's 50m Rifle Prone event in #GC2018; you have made the nation proud #PresidentKovind"

Sawant's efforts was second best behind Martina’s scoreline of 102.9, 102.7, 103.1, 104.3, 103.2, 104.8 and a total of 621.0 that is also Commonwealth Games record. Seonaid Mcintosh of Scotland secured the third place with 618.1 points to claim the bronze medal. India’s Anjum Moudgil had qualified to the finals event with Tejaswini Sawant but faltered in the mains event and ended on 16th place.

With Tejaswini Sawant’s silver medal, Indian shooters’ medal tally now stands at 12 including 4 gold, 3 bronze and 5 bronze. The other medal winners for India in shooting are Jitu Rai wins gold in Men's 10m Air Pistol, Manu Bhaker wins gold in Women's 10m Air Pistol, Heena Sidhu wins gold in Women's 25m Pistol and silver in Women's 10m Air Pistol, Shreyasi Singh wins gold in Women's Double Trap, Mehuli Ghosh wins silver in Women's 10m Air Rifle, Om Mitharval wins bronze in Men's 10m Air Pistol and Men's 10m Air Pistol, Ankur Mittal wins bronze in Men's Double Trap and Apurvi Chandela wins bronze in Women's 10m Air Rifle.
