Kolkata Knight Riders stunned the table toppers Sunrisers Hyderabad in their home ground. The purple and the gold army won the game number 54 by 5 wickets with a couple of balls to spare in IPL 2018. It all started with KKR losing the toss and being asked to bat first. The Orange Army has a superb start with Shikhar Dhawan and Shreevats Goswami giving a 79 runs partnership from the power play itself. But once, Shreevats got out on 35 runs off 26 balls, SRH captain Kane Williamson walked into bat. The skipper was sent packing by Searles on the score of 36 runs from 17 balls. Dhawan soon followed him to the dugout after completing his half-century from 39 balls. Pandey stayed for a bit and scored 25 off 22 balls. Yusuf Pathan and Carlos Brathwaite couldn’t do much as they got out on 2 and 3 respectively. Shakib Al Hasan contributed with 10 runs and the team put up a total of 172 runs for the guests. KKR too begun their innings in the similar fashion by hitting fours and sixes all over the park, Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine had a partnership of 52 runs but then the latter was sent packing by Shakib Al Hasan. But after getting 55 runs, Lynn got out and made way for Robin Uthappa played a crucial inning by chipping in 45 runs. Dinesh Karthik remained not out and finished the business by contributing 26 runs off 22 balls. With this KKR became the third team to book a berth in the playoffs.
