Juventus Come Back to Beat Chievo 2–3
Cristiano Ronaldo’s first game in Juventus colour ended in a win as a 93rd-minute winner from winger Federico Bernardeschi helped the Turin club win. Juventus had got off to a perfect start with Sami Khedira fired home his sides first goal in the 2nd minute.
Cristiano Ronaldo endured a tight first half, and his team were pegged back with Chievo scoring a goal, on each side of the halftime to lead 2-1. Juventus looked more lively in the second half with Ronaldo combining well with Dybala and Panic to kick off the Juventus response. Leonardo Bonucci headed home the equaliser in the 75th minute and thus set the platform for the late winner.
Chelsea Beat Arsenal 3-2
Unai Emery suffered his second defeat in as many games as Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea overcame Arsenal 3-2 in the London Derby. Pedro and Alvaro Morata had given Chelsea a 2-0 cushion, but Arsenal showed the appetite for the fight and produced wave after wave of attack. The Gunners equalised before halftime with goals from Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alex Iwobi, but some poor finishing prevented them from going ahead.
In the second half, the two sides were subdued, and the game looked destined for a draw when starman Eden Hazard propped up on the wide to set up Marcos Alonso’s winner. The defeat means Arsenal got off to their worst start since the inception of the league in 1992.
Manchester City Hits Huddersfield for a Six
Manchester City looks a force to reckon with yet again as they shot six past Huddersfield at the Etihad Stadium. Sergio Aguero scored a hat-trick and was joined by Gabriel Jesus, David Silva and Terrence Kongolo’s own goal as scorers for the defending champions.
Jon Stankovic scored a consolation for his side as they went down 6-1 against a team who look every bit the champions material they were last season. At this rate, there are very few in the league who could catch Guardiola’s men.
Brighton Beat Poor Manchester United 3–2
Manchester United’s defending against Brighton showed why Jose Mourinho was furious with the Manchester United board over not getting a quality defender added to the squad in the summer. Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof put in an atrocious performance which Brighton duly capitalized on scoring three times in the first half courtesy Glen Murray, Shane Duffy and a Pascal Grob penalty.
Romelu Lukau and Paul Pogba scored a goal each in the two halves, but that was of little consequence in a game where the Red Devils were second best in every aspect. The defeat also showed there is a little progress in the squad and some tough days ahead for Mourinho and co.
Lionel Messi Stars As Barcelona Thump Alaves 3–0
New Barcelona skipper Lionel Messi produced a master class as his brace along with a Philippe Coutinho's effort meant Barcelona got off to the perfect start in front a full house at Nou Camp. Messi was near perfection in his playmaker role as he took several positions in his team's attack and linked up play.
The highlight of the match though was his free-kick which he cleverly placed beneath the wall that had the crowd on its feet. The Barcelona defenders had very little to do in the game as it was total dominance from the home side.
