Sachin Tendulkar tweeted a heartfelt message on Twitter while addressing the grim situation in flood-hit Kerala. Heavy and persistent rains in the state have disrupted the daily life in Kerala. As many as 39 people have died in the devastating floods that have run rampant across the state. Not just that, over 30,000 people have been displaced too.
Tendulkar, in his appeal on his social media account Twitter, requested the people to stand in support of those in suffering in Kerala. In his message on the micro-blogging site, Tendulkar wrote, “Prayers are always good, but in times of dire need and suffering we all can do more. Right now the victims and families of the #KeralaFloods need our help. Let’s show them that we #StandWithKerala. Even a small contribution to Kerala’s #CMDRF would go a long way.”

The former Indian cricketer also co-owns a football franchise in Indian Super League (ISL), i.e. Kerala Blasters F.C. The team’s official account, too, put a series of tweets in the same context. In of their tweets, the message was, “As we are all aware, Kerala is going through a turbulent time, and there is nothing we as a 'team' cannot overcome. We request everyone to become a part of our efforts and donate generously to help people at these times!”

Kerala is in such a mess that the state government authorities have cancelled Onam festivities, as per some media reports. There were red alerts issued by the concerned authorities in 8 out of 14 districts. Reports are suggesting that over 50,000 people are living in camps.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued alerts in several parts of the state. Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan had also announced a compensation of Rs 10 Lakh for those who have lost their houses and land, while Rs 4 Lakh to next of kin who had died in the floods.
