Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra once again made the country proud as he won a silver medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 by achieving a best throw of 89.45 m in the final. Chopra who was the defending Olympic champion fell short of Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem who won the gold medal with a throw of 92.97 m. Neeraj missed out on some throws and did a few fouls. After the end of the event, Neeraj had mentioned that he wasn't fully fit and was pushing himself due to the Olympics. Now, as per a report by India Today, Neeraj is expected to undergo surgery to treat his long-standing groin injury. What Is Sports Hernia? The report further adds that the top three doctors have identified how to perform the surgery. Chopra has been struggling with Hernia which also caused pain in his groin. At first, he revealed his groin injury during the World Championships in 2022 and since then has been having issues with the same. As quoted by India Today Neeraj Chopra said, "I already threw 89.94m (in 2022) with this injury. When I throw, I always focus almost 50 percent on my injury. We have to focus mostly on technique, but it's really hard for me with this injury. "Doctors told me to go for surgery last year. I have been stretching myself till now.., There have been treatments since. But we will have to take a big decision."

Neeraj Chopra only managed to achieve one legal attempt out of six throws and yet finished second on the podium. However, if he had been fully fit the story would have been something else for Neeraj and he would finished at the top once again.
