Paris Olympics 2024 Highlights Day 9: Look Back at Major Headlines, Match Results, Updated Medals Tally

It has been a day of highs and lows for the Indian contingent at the Paris Olympics 2024. The Indian men's hockey team's sensational win over Great Britain in the quarterfinal was the only bright spot in what was not a promising day for the nation at this year's Summer Games. Goalkeeper PR Sreejesh showed his class and composure, helping India to a penalty shootout win to enter the semifinals for a second consecutive time. But Lakshya Sen, who had the chance to assure atleast a silver medal in men's singles badminton, fell to Denmark's Viktor Axelsen in the semifinal. He will still have a chance to win bronze and should he win it, history would be made. Also, Lovlina Borgohain's defeat in the women's 75kg boxing quarterfinals spelt the end of India's boxing campaign for India. In sailing, Nethra Kumanan finds herself in the 25th spot after eight races and will be in action in races 9 and 10 on Monday, August 5. In Women's skeet, both Maheshwari Chauhan and Raiza Dhillon failed to qualify for the final. Also, Vijayveer Sidhu and Anish Bhanwala's campaigns in 25m rapid fire pistol event ended after they could not reach the final. In athletics, Parul Chaudhary finished eighth in Women's 3000m Steeplechase, while Jeswin Aldrin too could make the final round in Men's Long Jump. Indian sailor Nethra Kumanan is currently in the 25th spot after eight races at the Summer Games. She is set to feature in the ninth and 10th races tomorrow. 

Shubhankar Sharma and Gaganjeet Bhullar's golf campaigns have ended at Paris Olympics 2024. Sharma created history by securing the best-ever finish by an Indian (Tied 40) while Bhullar finished tied 45th. 

Despite a strong performance from them in the qualification round, Anish Bhanwala and Vijayveer Sidhu failed to qualify for the final, following their finish in the 13th and 9th position respectively. Top six qualified for the final. 

The journey of the Skeet shooters is over in Paris Olympics 2024. Maheshwari Chauhan finished 14th out of 29 shooters in Women's Skeet qualifications with a score of 118/125.  Raiza Dhillon finished 24th with a score of 111/125.

Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen has lost to Denmark's Viktor Axelsen in the semi-final of the badminton men's singles by 20-22, 14-21.

Indian sailor Vishnu Saravanan competes in Men's Dinghy ILCA 7 Race 7 & 8 at the Paris Olympics 2024. The event began from 03:35 PM IST (Indian Standard Time). 

Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen will be up against Denmark's Viktor Axelson in the semi-final of the badminton men's singles category. 

Indian men's hockey team showcased a brilliant performance in the quarter-final match against Great Britain whereas Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain lost to her Chinese opponent Li Qian by 4-1 in the women's middleweight quarterfinal.
