Paris Olympics 2024 Highlights Day 8: Look Back at Major Headlines, Match Results, Updated Medals Tally

An exciting day comes to an end at the Paris Olympics! India did fail to win a medal today, but the limelight was deservedly hogged by Manu Bhaker, who gunned for a third podium finish at the Olympics this year but missed out, finishing fourth by a narrow margin. Later, Deepika Kumari too put up a good show in the women's archery individual event, making it to the quarterfinal. But just like Tokyo, she faced an exit at this very round. Earlier, young Bhajan Kaur had too bowed out of the women's individual archery event in the pre-quarterfinal. With that, India's archery campaign at Paris Olympics 2024 came to an end. Later in the day, Nishant Dev put up a valiant fight against Mexico's Marco Alonso Verde Alvarez, only to lose 1-4 via split decision. In skeet, Anantjeet Singh Naruka's campaign came to an end after he finished 24th with a score of 116 out of 125. In women's skeet, Maheshwari Chauhan is at eight after Day 1 with the top six making it to the final. Her compatriot Raiza Dhillon was at 25th. In sailing, Vishnu Saravanan finished in 21st and 13th positions in races 5 and 6. Nethra Kumanan on the other hand, finished in 28th (races 4 and 5), and 20th spots (race 6). Golfers Shubhankar Sharma and Gaganjeet Bhullar finished with 1 over par (+1) and par (0) respectively in the third round. They will be in action in the fourth round on Sunday. Nishant Dev lost to Mexico's Marco Alonso Verde Alvarez  in Men's 71 Kg quarterfinal, with the latter winning by a split decision. Dev put on a great effort but he finishes second best on the night.

In a shocking development, Shelly Ann Fraser Price refused entry into the warmup area because she didn’t arrive in the team bus. She subsequently missed the Women's 100 M semifinal heats and that means she won't be taking part in the final. 

 Simone Biles has clinched another gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, this time in the artistic gymnastics women’s vault final on Saturday. It’s her third gold medal of these Games, after leading the USA to gold in the team final and winning gold in the all-around final.

Sailor Vishnu Saravanan at 23rd place after men's dinghy race 5 and 6. Nethra Kumanan at 25th place following Women's dinghy race 5 and 6. Saravanan finishes 21st and 13th position in Race 5 and Race 6 respectively.  Kumanan had a 28th place finish in Race 4 and 5 and finished 20th in the 6th Race. 

That's It! Valiant attempt from Deepika Kumari but in the end falls short of the required target. Deepika took lead twice but when she ended up shooting two weak arrows in the second and fourth set which went against her. That's the end of India's Archery campaign in Paris Olympics 2024 and once again, they came agonizingly close, but returned empty handed. 

Finally the much awaited quarterfinal between Deepika Kumari and Nam Suhyeon is all set to commence. It is very difficult to beat a South Korean archer in the Paris Olympics 2024 but Deepika Kumari looks determined to give her hundred percent.

Making a stunning comeback into the game, Olympic debutant Bhajan Kaur managed to stretch the match till the shoot-out against the two-time Olympian Diananda Choirunisa. But hitting '8' in the shoot-out, Bhajan Kaur's exciting run in the Paris Olympics 2024 comes to an end. 

Bhajan Kaur started with eight but held her nerves to score back to back 10's. In the second set, Bhajan Kaur maintained her exclusive form and bagged the set. It will be a close contest between Indian and Indonesian star. 

Deepika Kumari won her pre-quarterfinal match against Michelle Kroppen of Germany and now will play in the quarterfinals of the Women's Archery event. Bhajan Kaur will look to join her compatriot as she will be next in action with a bow and arrow.
