Paris Olympics 2024 Highlights Day 7: Look Back at Major Headlines, Match Results, Updated Medals Tally

It has been a memorable day for India at the Paris Olympics 2024 with the likes of Manu Bhaker, Lakshya Sen and the hockey team among the star performers. Manu Bhaker, who already has won two medals at the Paris Olympics 2024, is gunning for a third which would make her the only Indian to win if she goes on to secure a podium finish. The Indian men's hockey bounced back from their loss to Belgium to beat Australia 4-2, picking up their first win over the Aussies at the Olympics in 52 years. Lakshya Sen then became the first Indian badminton player to enter the semifinals of the Olympics when he downed Chinese Taipei's Chou Tien Chen. The mixed archery team of Dhiraj Bommadevara and Ankita Bhakat became the first Indians to enter the semifinals of an archery event at Olympics but missed out on a bronze medal. Not the best of attempts from Tajinderpal Singh Toor. He fails to clear the qualification mark yet again and his campaign comes to and end. 

Not the best start for India in golf. After Round 1, Gaganjeet Bhullar and Subhankar Sharma are at the 56th and 29th place respectively. Definitely the performance is expected to be better on Round 2.

Things not looking good for Tajinderpal Singh Toor as he couldn't show is best in the first two throws in men's shot-put qualification. He still has one attempt left and it will be his now or never attempt. 

Athletics promises so much only in its opening day in the Paris Olympics 2024 as the USA Mixed 4x400 metre relay team sets new World and Olympic record just in the heat. They clocked a timing of 3:07:3 breaking the record of 3.08.80 (World) and 3.09.87 (Olympic). A really positive start from Team USA and fans will be excited to see them more in the finals.

History! Lakshya Sen comes back from to beat Chou Tien Chen two games to one and becomes the first Indian to qualify for men's singles badminton semifinal in the Olympic Games. Lakshya, who entered the Paris Olympics 2024 ahs surprised everyone with his tenacity and has single handedly kept India's hopes alive in the sport. 

Carrying the only hope for India in badminton, Lakshya Sen is in action at the men's singles quarterfinal against Chou Tien Chen. A win will take Lakshya nearer to a podium finish and a loss means India will return empty handed from badminton. 

After putting up a series of impressive performances, Dhiraj Bommadevara and Ankita Bhakat's mixed team have missed out on the bronze medal. India eventually lose the contest 2-6. USA take the bronze medal but it has been a mighty impressive performance from the Indian pair. They finish fourth in the archery mixed team event.

After a fantastic fight, Indian Mixed Archery team goes down to South Korea in the semifinal clash. India took 2-0 lead in the first set but South Korea came back from behind to seal the victory in their favour. Dhiraj Bommadevara and Ankita Bhakat will play in the bronze medal match now to keep India's medal hopes alive from Archery. 

A historic moment for India as for the first time, they will field a archery team in the semifinal of Olympics. Indian mixed team archers, Dhiraj Bommadevara and Ankita Bhakat have been on spot so far and will hope to sneak through to the final and ensure a medal. 

That's It! India defends desperately as the final whistle blows and it is a moment of history for Indian hockey. After 52 years they secure a Olympic victory against Australia, their first in AstroTurf era. A top win which will boost India's confidence ahead of entering the knockouts. 

The day gets better for India as Mixed team archers Dhiraj Bommadevara and Ankita Bhakat enter semifinal following victory against Spain in quarterfinal. India took the lead early, but Spain equalised in the third set. In the decider Dhiraj Bommadevara showed his composure and helped India enter the semifinal. 

After a strong performance in the pre-quarterfinal, India's mixed team archers, Dhiraj Bommadevara and Ankita Bhakat look to progress further as they take on Spain in the quarterfinal. 

After the first quarter, Australia upped their intensity and reduced the gap with India as Tom Craig scored a crucial goal to reduce the lead. Manpreet Singh's last ditch defending helped Australia get a penalty corner and despite the injection being miscued, they got enough to find Craig free in the second post. India showed intent as well but got only one penalty corner which they were not able to convert. 

Goal! India doubles up the lead in no time. Australia looked to equalise quickly leaving their defense unprotected and India counter-attack swiftly to secure a penalty corner. This time Harmanpreet Singh was prompt to use his drag flick well as he scores and extends India's lead. The real test will start for India now as how much they will now be able to keep Australia's pressure. 

Manu Bhaker continues her golden run in the Paris Olympics 2024 as she qualifies for the final of the Women's 25 M Air Pistol event with a total score of 590. Manu scored 294 in Precision round and 296 in Rapid Fire round. Overall she finished in second position. Manu will fight for her third medal tomorrow. 

Goal! India takes the lead against Australia. India have started the quarter confidently and created a few chances with circle entries. They get the reward for it as Lalit Upadhyay create a good chance and Abishek converted it in India's favour. India will look to extend it. 

As anticipated, Esha Singh's challenge ends in the Women's 25 M qualification as she slips down with the beginning of the relay 2. Manu Bhaker started well and is in a strong position to qualify for the final.
