A heartbreaking day for India on so many fronts. The day started with the worst of the news possible of Vinesh Phogat getting disqualified and stripped off her medal. Then there was a flurry of poor results as Annu Rani, Jyothi Yarraji failed to qualify.Ā National record holder Praveen Chitravel and Abdulla Aboobacker failed to qualify for the Triple Jump finals. Women's Table tennis team lost against Germany. Antim Panghal was defeated in her first bout and the day was topped with Mirabai Chanu finishing in the fourth place. The only hopeful news was Avinash Sable giving a good run in the men's steeplechase final and qualifying for the World Championships. Despite a good runĀ Sable couldn't secure a medal. But he put up a strong display finishing 11th in the men's 3000 M steeplechase final. Sable clocked a timing of 8:14:18.Ā
Heartbreak for Mirabai Chanu. She fails to pick the 114 Kg weight in her last attempt and with it she stays in the fourth position and missed out on a medal challenge. She didn't look at her best and picked a total of 199 Kg.Ā
Some tense moments and Mirabai Chanu has put them behind her. Climbs up to third place after lifting 111 Kg in her second attempt. In her first attempt she failed to lift 111 Kg in Clean and jerk and was not happy with her attempt. She returned strong to move upto a total weight of 199 Kg.Ā
Vinesh Phogat has appealed against disqualification at the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The star grappler asked to be reinstated for the Gold match and then modified her plea to ask for a shared silver.Ā
Mirabai Chanu successfully lifted 88 Kg weight and finished third in the snatch Round during the Women's 49 Kg Weightlifting Event. She is 4 Kg behindĀ the current leader.Ā
Some action is on track for India as Abdulla Aboobacker and Praveen Chithravel are competing in the Men'sĀ Triple Jump Event. Some Athletes have already crossed the qualification mark.Ā
Aditi Ashok started well but finished 13th while Diksha Dagar had a good spell in between but slipped to 7th in the Women's Individual Golf event at the end of the day 1.
Two of the major events up next for Indian athletes are the Men's Triple Jump Event and the Women's Weightlifting Event. Praveen Chithravel and Mirabai Chanu will be in action for their respective events.
Diksha Dagar has climbed up the ranks with a -3 to par after 16 holes done and is at T2. Aditi Ashok goes down after a double bogey in her last shot of the day. She finishes on par for the day and is currently tied 10th.
Team USA is in the lead for the third straight day with 86 Medals including 24 Gold medals at the Paris Olympics 2024. China is in the second position with 60 medals and has 22 gold medals. Team India meanwhile slips to 63rd position.Ā
