Viktor Axelsen, who beat Sen in the semis, went on to win the gold medal for a second consecutive time at the Olympics. In wrestling, an injured Nisha Dahiya fought against her injury and opponent Sol Gum Pak in wrestling 66kg quarterfinal. The team of Maheshwari Chauhan and Anant Jeet Naruka failed to win the bronze medal by the barest of margins. India's campaign in sailing also came to an end. But there some positive points of the day too. The Indian women's table tennis team made it to the quarterfinals with a win over Romania. Late in the day, Avinash Sable scripted history by becoming the first Indian to enter the final of men's 3000m steeplechase event at the Olympics.
