Paris Olympics 2024 Highlights Day 1: Look Back at Major Headlines, Match Results, Updated Medals Tally

It has been a memorable day for India at the Paris Olympics 2024, with the highlight being Manu Bhaker making it to the final of the Women's 10m Air Pistol event. Sarabjot Singh narrowly missed a spot in the final of the men's 10m Air Pistol event. The mixed teams of Ramita Jindal and Arjun Babuta and Sandeep Singh and Elavenil Valarivan too could not make it past the qualification rounds. In Men's Singles Sculls heat 1 rowing event, Balraj Panwar finished fourth and would be in action in the Repechage round on July 28. In table tennis, Harmeet Desai had a winning start and so did the Lakshya Sen and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty in badminton, winning their respective first matches. Unfortunately, the women's doubles badminton pair of Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa lost their opening match. The Indian men's hockey team did remarkably well to outclass New Zealand 3-2 in a thrilling match. In boxing, Preeti Pawar comprehensively defeated Vietnam's Vo Thi Kim Anh. The pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto had a disappointing outing in their first match of women's doubles badminton as they lost to South Korea's Kong Hee-Yong and Kim So-yeong. The Indian pair lost 18-21, 10-21.

Making a remarkable debut in the Summer Olympic Games, Preeti Pawar won her first match against Vietnam's Vo Thi Kim Anh. Despite Vo Thi Kim anh throwing some powerful punches, the 20-year-old Indian boxer won the match by unanimous decision.  

With two wins from two matches in the Men's category, Indian badminton stars showed their capability at the Olympic Games. But at the Women's doubles category, Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Castro are trailing in the first set against Kong Hee Yong and Kim So-Yoeng of the Republic of Korea.

After multiple events under wraps, it's just a boxing event remaining for India on July 27. The match will start in half an hour with Preeti Pawar looking to shine in her debut at the Summer Olympic Games. 

Goals from Mandeep Singh, Vivek Sagar Prasad and Harmanpreet Singh secured a victory for the India Men's National Hockey Team. New Zealand put up a great fight as Sam Lane opened the scoring in the match, while Simon Child scored an equaliser. But late penalty goal from Harmanpreet Singh was enough to seal victory for India.  

While Indian athletes are on a winning run at the moment with Manu Bhaker, Shuttlers and Paddlers producing excellent results, the India Men's Hockey Team has some catch-up work. The side trails by a goal Same Lane scored for the Blackcaps in the first quarter.   

After struggling early in the match, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty took control of the match and wrapped up the win in straight sets against Ronan Labar and Lucas Corvee. The scoreline reads 21-17, 21-14 in favour of the Indian Pair.

After Lakshya Sen's impressive win, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will also look for a win. The In-form pair will look for a dominant win against the French pair Ronan Labar and Lucas Corvee to start the Olympic Games camping on the front foot. 

Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen and paddler Harmeet Desai secured victories in their respective opening matches at the Paris Olympics 2024. Lakshya Sen won his match against Kevin Cordon with a scoreline of 21-8, 22-20. Harmeet Desai also bagged a win in the Men's singles table tennis event.

Lakshya Sen's turn now to shine for India and the shuttler is showing aggressive gameplay. The Indian star has a set lead over Guatemalan opponent Kevin Cordon.

Moving back to tennis, Iga Swiatek and Novak Djokovic advanced to the second round with straight-set wins in their respective matches. Swiatek in particular came back from a break-down to win the second set 7-5. Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz is also in action with a set advantage over Hadi Habib of Lebanon. 

China continue to dominate the Paris Olympic Games 2024 and takes early lead with their second Gold Medal at the multisport Event.  This time its their female diving pair Chang Yani and Chen Yiwen who finished first at the Women's Synchronized 3M Springboard event. this is China's first ever gold medal in the said event. 

Indian shooter Manu Bhaker qualifies for the final of the 10m air pistol women’s competition at the Paris Olympics 2024 with 580 total points in the qualification round. She finished third while Rhythm Sangwan finished 15th.

Solid round for Manu Bhaker as she hits 96 in Series 4 to keep herself in contention. She currently lies 3rd in the standings. Sadly, Rhythm Sangwan is 22nd and seems down and out.

With many hopes from the star shooter, Manu Bhaker takes centre stage and is in action for the Women's 10 M Air Pistol Qualification Rounds at  Paris Olympics 2024.

Moving on to the tennis, the Indian pair Rohan Bopanna-N Sriram Balaji will now face Gael Monfils and Edouard Roger-Vasselin in the first Round. Fabian Reboul opted out of the competition and Monfils stepped in as a replacement. 

Indian shooters Sarabjot Singh and Arjun Singh Cheema were eliminated from the men's air pistol 10m individual qualifying round. Sarabjot finished ninth with a score of 577 whereas Cheema ended on 18th position with a score of 574. 

China won the first gold medal of the Paris Olympic Games 2024 and defeated Republic of Korea to achieve the milestone in the 10m air rifle mixed team event. 

The first medal of the Paris Olympics 2024 has been awarded to Kazakhstan mixed team in the 10m air rifle mixed team event. The pair of Alexandra Le and Islam Satpayev won the bronze medal for their country.
