Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore became the first Indian to win an Olympic individual silver medal post-independence. In Athens 2004, Rathore overcame a tough battle from China's Wang Zheng to clinch the silver medal in the men's double trap event and etch his name in the history books.

After Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore's success, expectations were high for Abhinav Bindra. He finished fourth in qualifying but excelled in the final, tying with Finland's Henri Hakkinen. In his last shot, Bindra scored 10.8, winning gold as Hakkinen scored 9.7 in men's 10m air rifle at Beijing 2008. This was India's first individual Olympic gold, later matched by Neeraj Chopra in Tokyo 2020.
