The second day of Winter Olympic Games 2018 saw a lot of thrilling competitions take place in the whirlwind snow and ice. The highlight of the day was United States’ Redmond Gerard winning the first Gold medal for his country, at the PyeongChang Olympic Games.

The 17-year-old from the USA set the cat amongst pigeons as he beat his contemporaries in the final run, after trailing in the previous runs. Norway’s Marcus Kleveland couldn’t better Gerard’s flawless final run and won the Silver medal. Canadian Max Parrot faltered in his final run and lost his potential chance to claim a Gold. The Men’s Skiathlon took place in Alpensia. After falling in the race initially, Norway’s Simen Hegstad Kruger fought hard and eventually won the Gold medal. Other Norway team members – Martin Sundby and A – were the other participants in the Skiathlon who won the Silver and Bronze medals.

Sven Kramer, Netherlands, was the star attraction at Gangneung Oval on Day 2. Kramer won the 5000M Final in Speed Skating at the 2018 Winter Games and claimed his Fourth Olympic Gold medal, and took his own Olympic Medal record to eight. In his herculean run, Kramer also broke the Olympic record of the Speed Skating sport.

Other notable sports event that took place on Day 2 were Luge, Freestyle Skiing, and Biathlon. The competitors braved intense weather conditions and came out as champions in their respective events.
