Netizens took to social media and shared photos and videos of the opening ceremony to slam the event organisers, stating that the Olympics "died" tonight. It must be noted that the opening ceremony saw performances from artists such as Lady Gaga, Aya Nakamura and Celine Dion, among others.

However, a few performances that reportedly depicted blasphemy, satanism and paedophilia did not go well with people worldwide. The Paris Olympics opening ceremony became controversial after a few performances caused uproar on social media. Among these were the reenactment of "The Last Supper," Marie Antoinette's beheading, and Philippe Katerine's "Depiction of Dionysus." The Drag Queens' reenactment of "The Last Supper" allegedly included a child. This did not go well with netizens, who claimed that the depiction of the Last Supper was disrespectful and incitement.

Similarly, the opening ceremony also saw a decapitated head singing, alleging showing Marie Antoinette's beheading. Marie Antoinette was beheaded by guillotine at the Place de la Révolution in Parid on October 16, 1793. The event also saw children dancing next to men who pretended to be women. The opening ceremony also mocked the Golden Calf idol and the Pale Horse from the Book of Revelation.

Netizens also lashed out at the event for showing a naked Smurf with an erection and a bearded "woman" dancing provocatively.
