Sachin Tendulkar, one of the greatest cricketer of all times, put up heartfelt messages about India's sports legends on Twitter, on the occasion of National Sports Day. Tendulkar dedicated his tweets to the ‘Little Master’ Sunil Gavaskar and 'Hockey Legend' Major Dhyan Chand.
On his Twitter, the Master Blaster wrote, “To me, Sunil Gavaskar is the epitome of unwavering concentration & courage. To step out on the field against a team that was well-known for ferocious pace bowlers and still achieve one of his highest batting averages. All I can say is … Wow! #NationalSportsDay #SportPLAYINGIndia”

The picture that Sachin Tendulkar posted shows how brave Sunil Gavaskar was, during his era. Stepping out to fast bowlers was quite a thing in the 70s and 80s. To do it, without a helmet was even more mesmerising.
It is a known fact that during the Gavaskar-era, how fearsome were the fast bowlers were! During those times, there weren’t even proper sports gears available for players’ safety.
In another message on National Sports Day, Sachin Tendulkar wrote, "I've heard stories about #MajorDhyanChand practising Hockey under a moonlit sky as there were no floodlights in those days. He did what it took to fulfil his dream. That's what I call commitment. Remembering him on his 113th birth anniversary #NationalSportsDay #SportPLAYINGIndia"

To top of it, every cricket fan would recall how ferocious Gavaskar was in his batting style. He might have scored runs with a slower strike rate, but the fact that he played against those fearsome pace bowlers without a helmet was quite a spectacle.
Gavaskar went on to become a legend in the sport. He ended his career on a high and retired after scoring the most runs in Test cricket. It is quite known that Gavaskar has been Tendulkar’s role model since he started playing cricket. To see a student a testimony for his teacher on the occasion of National Sports Day is quite heartening!
