In the presence of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Odisha Sports Association, Hockey India declared the venues of Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023 during a grand celebration in the state. Bhubneshwar and Rourkela have been selected as the venues for the global hockey tournament. India is set to host Men’s Hockey World Cup on their home soil after four years. International Hockey Federation had announced in the first week of November this year that India will be hosting the next edition of Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023. Hockey India on Wednesday (November 27) revealed the names of the cities which will be hosting the tournament, giving this marvellous opportunity to Bhubneshwar and Rourkela. A grand celebration was also conducted in the Mecca of Hockey. Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik and Sports Odisha declared venues of the global sports event. India hosts the tournament for the second time in a row. India has hosted the tournament four times in the history of the game. Last year in 2018, Men's Hockey World Cup 2018 was conducted from November 28 to December 16 at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. In Hockey World Cup 2018, India could only reach the quarterfinals of the tournament.
In Pool C, India was grouped with Belgium, Canada and South Africa. India defeated South Africa 5-0 in the group stages and ended in a tie with Belgium 2-2. India defeated Canada 5-1, however, Indian team lost the quarter-final match to Netherlands 2-1 and were ousted from the tournament.
