Mehuli Ghosh Wins Silver, Apurvi Chandela Gets Bronze in Women's 10m Air Rifle Event at CWG 2018 for India
On Day 5, Jitu Rai continued the Indian shooting contingent’s winning momentum by adding a second straight gold medal in Commonwealth Games. Described a legend according to CWG, Jitu Rai has previously won the yellow medal in Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
It is raining medals for Indian shooters at Gold Coast Commonwealth Games 2018! After a fantastic show by Jitu Rai and Om Mitharval, it is Mehuli Ghosh and Apurvi Chandela who have bagged medals for Indian in shooting. The duo won silver and bronze medals in women’s 10m Air Rifle event at Belmont Shooting Centre. Martina Lindsay Veloso of Singapore won the gold in Women's 10m Air Rifle finals. With this India’s CWG 2018 medal tally have shot up to 17 including 8 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze. They are placed behind host nation Australia and Glasgow 2014 table toppers England in the GC 2018 medal table and team standings.
Mehuli Ghosh was tied up with Martina with 247.2 points in the finals but it was latter’s 10.3 compared to Ghosh’s 9.9 remarks that decided their colour of medal. Meanwhile, Apurvi Chandela finished with 225.3 points to take the third sport and add another medal in India’s Gold Coast Games tally. Their feat means India has bagged a total of six medals in shooting after Manu Bhaker, Heena Sidhu, Jitu Rai and Om Mitharval.
On Day 4 of Commonwealth Games 2018, 16-year old Manu Bhaker had opened the account by clinching India’s first gold medal in shooting in the women's 10m Air Pistol event. In the same discipline it was experienced Heena Sidhu who bagged the silver medal after a making a strong comeback in the elimination round.
