Who is Bharati Dey?
Bharati Dey, born in March 1947, predates independent India and is leading the Bridge team of India in the Asian Games 2023 at Hangzhou. She has been a consistent member of the Indian Bridge team since it's inclusion in the Asian Games 2018. She has been part of World Bridge Games 2012 in France and World Championships in 2021 and 2023. She is the senior most member in her team and her youngest teammate Vidhya Patel is just 22 years old, born in this millennium making the fact more fascinating. She was also part of the Indian team that won gold medal at the Bridge Federation of Asia and Middle-East Championships (BFAME) at Lahore, Pakistan in May 2023. The Indian Women's Bridge Team, currently competing at the Asian Games 2023 consists of five more players alongside Bharati Dey. Asha Sharma, Puja Batra, Alka Kshirsagar, Kalpana Gurjar and Vidya Patel are Bharati's teammates and they had a 11.28 - 8.72 victory over Indonesia in the round robin (1-4) round on Wednesday, September 28. Having played 70 boards so far, the Indian women are languishing at seventh place in the overall standing with 37.76 total points.
