India’s most celebrated boxer MC Mary Kom has booked her place in final of women’s 48kg category on day seven of Commonwealth Games 2018. The boxing legend registered a comprehensive victory over Anusha Dilrukshi Koddithuwak of Sri Lanka in semi-finals. The 35-year-old MC Mary Kom with a 5-0 win has assured India of a silver medal but her fans know very well that the star boxer won’t settle for less than the gold medal. The five-time world champion and Olympic bronze-medallist Indian is competing in her maiden Commonwealth Games and she is going to make it count. Meanwhile, Sarita Devi did not have desired results as she was knocked out by Anja Stridsman in women’s 60 kg category.

Mary Kom entered the ring opposite a taller opponent Koddithuwak who despite the height advantage was not good enough for the Indian boxer. Though the 39-year-old Sri Lankan picked up the pace in the final three minutes but Mary Kom drew from her own well of experience to thwart her. Mary Kom won a perfect 10 in all five rounds compared to Dilrukshi’s 27. All judges unanimously gave their votes in favour of blue-jersey Indian boxer. Mary Kom will take on Kristina O’Hara of Northern Island in the Women's 45-48kg Final Bout on April 14, 2018.

Coming to Sarita Devi’s match on the day seven, the 36-year-old lost her quarters bout to Anja Stridsman of Australia. The 31-year-old Stridsman consistently held an upper hand in the match before Sarita Devi made a comeback of sorts in last minutes but was not good enough to give her passage to the next round.

Earlier on Day 6, five Indian boxers Manoj Kumar (69kg), Satish Kumar (91kg), Amit Panghal (49kg), Mohammed Hussamuddin (56kg) and Naman Tanwar (91kg) have assured India of medals by moving to the semi-finals. It is a great opportunity for Indian boxers to go for the gold and add to India’s medal tally and improved medal table standings than the previous edition of Commonwealth Games.
