Mary Kom Wins Gold Medal in Women's 45-48kg Boxing Event for India in CWG 2018
The 18th Gold medal helped India strengthen its lead on the third spot in the latest medal standings of 2018 CWG. The ace Indian boxer won the Gold medal in Women’s 45-48kg category after beating Kristina O’Hara in the final.
Mary Kom won a Gold medal at Commonwealth Games 2018, at Gold Coast as India had a golden beginning on Day 10 of the multination tournament. The ace Indian boxer won the Gold medal in Women’s 45-48kg category after beating Kristina O’Hara in the final on April 14. With Mary Kom’s win on Saturday, the Indian contingent has won 18 Gold medals in total and is currently on the third spot of the latest Medal Standings.
MC Mary Kom, who is also a five-time amateur boxing champion, defeated England’s Kristina by 5-0 in the final of Women’s 45-48 kg boxing at Oxenford Studios, at Gold Coast on Saturday.
In her previous bouts, Mary Kom had defeated Anusha Koddithuwakku of Sri Lanka in the Semi-finals of CWG 2018. She had defeated the Sri Lankan counterpart by the margin of 5-0 too. Previously, Mary Kom had defeated Megan Gordon her quarter-finals bout at the CWG this year. Megan Gordon, who hails from Scotland, was defeated with a scoreline of 5-0 too.
The 35-year-old boxer, Mary Kom, has now added another feather in her already studded cap on Saturday as she won a Gold medal in boxing. The 18th Gold medal helped India strengthen its lead on the third spot in the latest medal standings of 2018 CWG.
As per the latest Medal Standings, the Indian team has won a total of 43 medals, of which 18 are Gold, 11 Silver, and 14 Bronze medals. Australia and England have maintained their positions on the first and second spot respectively.
The Australian team is leading the medal tally, of Commonwealth Games 2018, with a total of 169 medals in their kitty, of which 66 are Gold, 49 Silver, and 54 Bronze medals. The England team are second on the medal tally with a total of 100 medals, of which 31 are Gold, 34 Silver, and 35 Bronze medals.
