Mary Kom who has made India proud on many occasions has once again confirmed a medal for the nation as she had stormed into the semifinals of the World Women's Boxing Championship 2019 and has got her name scripted in the history with golden letters. Mary Kom becomes the only boxer – male or female to win eight medals. Mary Kom beats reigning Olympic medalist Ingrit Valencia by unanimous decision 5:0 in the 51 kgs category. Mary Kom had entered the quarterfinals of the tournament after she went on to beat Thailand’s Jutamas Jitpongby 5-0. The Indian boxer was extremely sharp in the second match and had set up an amazing counter-attack for the opponents. With a win in the semi-finals of the game, Mary Kom will be assured of clinching a bronze medal. Even the official handle shared the news of Mary Kom’s victory.

However, there was a disappointment for India when former silver-medallist Saweety Boora (75kg) lost her pre-quarterfinal bout in a split decision despite a valiant fight. Saweety was up against second-seeded Welshwoman Lauren Price.
