Mary Kom Eyes Gold Medal After Defeating North Korea’s Kim Hyang Mi at the Women’s World Boxing Championships 2018 Semi-Finals

India’s boxer Mary Kom went on to beat Olympic bronze-medallist North Korea's Kim Hyang Mi comprehensively by 5-0.

India’s boxer Mary Kom went on to beat Olympic bronze-medallist North Korea's Kim Hyang Mi comprehensively by 5-0. Mary Kom defeated the opponent in 48kg light flyweight category and made it to the finals of the AIBA Women’s World Championships 2018 underway in New Delhi. The Indian boxer had defeated Kim Hyang Mi last year in the Asian Championships too. Mary Kom had a mediocre start in the game but went did really well as the game proceeded.  The elaborate scoreline read 29-28, 30-27, 30-27, 30-27, 30-27. Mary Kom, Lovlina Ready for Semifinal Challenges. 

Mary Kom who won the game by a unanimous decision will now face Hanna Okhota of Ukraine in the final. If the Indian boxer manages to beat Hanna Okhota in the finals she will be able to better the record of  Katie Taylor who also has five gold medals to her credit and will become the most successful woman boxer. Talking about the match which took place a while ago, it was Mary Kom’s swift movement inside the ring and ability to use the ring well gave her an added advantage over the North Korean. In the second round, Mary turned the game around defending Kim Hyang Mi’s punches as the North Korean boxer looked really aggressive. Both the players looked tired in the third round but Kim Hyang Mi put her best in the final round.

But despite that Mary Kom won the game and proceeded to the finals of the AIBA Women’s World Championships 2018. With this, the Indian boxer has assured with the countrymen of the silver medal at least. As of now, Mary Kom has five gold medals and a silver in her kitty. The 35-year-old boxer had previously won the gold medal in 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010 editions of the Championships.
