Manu Bhaker, the 16-year-old shooting prodigy, has won gold at 2018 Youth Olympic Games in the 10m Air Pistol event. This is India's second gold at the Games and the fifth overall, including three silver medals. Weightlifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga claimed the top spot in the men's 62 kg category in Buenos Aires. The 15-year-old from Aizawl lifted a total of 274 kg (124 kg +150 kg) to finish on top of the table on Monday night.

The teenage shooting star Manu Bhaker was also the flag-bearer of the Indian contingent for the 3rd Youth Olympic Games to be held in Buenos Aires from October 6-18. Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President Narinder Batra had announced that the 16-year-old Bhaker would lead the Indian team in the opening ceremony. Manu won two gold medals in the 2018 ISSF World Cup held in Guadalajara, Mexico. Manu continued her winning run at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. Bhaker scored 388/400 points at 2018 Commonwealth Games in women's 10m air pistol qualifying round and qualified for the finals. In the final round of the women's 10m air pistol event during the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, she secured the gold medal with setting a new Commonwealth Games record of 240.9 points.

In 2018 Asian Games, however, she failed to win a medal there, as she finished 6th in the final. Manu Bhaker then apologised to the fans for being unable to win a medal at the Asian Games. She has kept her promise by winning a gold medal at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in the 10m Air Pistol event.
