However, the disgracing incident such as this highlights the sorry state of affairs many Indian athletes have to face in our country.
Chandigarh, April 17: In a shocker, Manu Bhaker was humiliated in a ceremony organised in Haryana, to felicitate her Gold Medal-winning achievement at Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2018. As per the media reports, the 16-year-old prodigy, who surprised the nation by winning the 10m Air Pistol event at the CWG 2018, was made to sit on the floor during the ceremony to make space for the VVIP guests.
As per the media reports, the teen icon was seen sitting on a chair after she was honoured with the garlands. However, in another visual Manu Bhaker was seen sitting on the floor and the same chair that she had occupied was occupied by one of the VVIP guests.
Manu Bhaker, the teen sensation from Haryana, had won a Gold Medal in one of the biggest multi-nation sports’ event, only 10 days back. Making her debut appearance at the Commonwealth Games this year, she delighted many as she pipped Heena Sidhu to win a Gold medal in the 10m Air Pistol event.
The shooting champion has a long list of achievements against her name. Not many know that Manu Bhaker broke Heena Sidhu’s national record in 10m Air Pistol event at 61st National Shooting Championship, held at Thiruvananthapuram, only last year.
Will the organisers apologise or clarify on the incident is for time to tell. However, the disgracing incident highlights the sorry state of affairs many Indian athletes have to face in our country. Even after bringing laurels to the nation at global sporting events, very few are accorded the amount of respect they rightfully deserve!
