Manjit Singh Wins Gold Medal, Jinson Johnson Clinches Silver in 800 Meter Race at Asian Games 2018; Takes the Medal Tally to 49

The day 10 of the Asian Games 2018, tuned out to be quite good for the Indians. Earlier in the day, PV Sindhu won the silver medal and a couple of them came from the Compound team finals, where South Korea defeated India in both the men's and women's final. Now, India’s athletes Manjit Singh and Jinson Johnson have made the nation proud by clinching a gold and silver medal respectively in men’s 800-meter race. Manjit finished first with a timing of one minute and 46.15 seconds. Whereas the 27-year-old Johnson was 0.20 seconds behind his compatriot. With this, India now has 49 medals in the tally and is now at position eight.
Qatar’s Abubaker Abdalla finished third clocking one minute 46.38 seconds. Both Manjit Singh and Jinson Johnson made a late surge but stunned on the field. So far, the athletics team have got India 10 medals which includes, two gold and seven silver medals. The shooters have bagged nine medals which includes two gold, four silvers and two bronze.
President Ram Nath Kovind congratulated the Indian pair of sprinters, saying: "Our athletes continue to bring laurels for the country! Congratulations Manjit Singh for winning the Gold and Jinson Johnson for the Silver in the Men’s 800m events at the @asiangames2018. Your stupendous performance has made the entire country extremely proud."
