The medal count for Indian wrestlers in Commonwealth Games 2018 witnesses a continuous rise with Kiran winning a bronze medal in women’s freestyle 76 kg category. The 26-year-old grappler from Rawat Khera defeated Katouskia Pariadhaven of Mauritius in the Women's Freestyle 76 kg Bronze Medal match on April 12, 2018. Earlier, wrestlers Rahul Aware and Babita Kumari Phogat clinched gold and silver medal respectively with India’s medal tally now reading 28 including 13 gold, 6 silver and 9 bronze. They are placed third in the CWG 2018 medal table behind Australia and England.
Kiran registered an emphatic victory over Katouskia Pariadhaven in the bronze medal match. She won the dual 10-0 with the decision given as Victory by Fall. It was an impressive turnaround for Kiran in the third-place match after suffering a loss at the hands of Blessing Onyebuchi of Nigeria in Women's Freestyle 76 kg Semifinal match taking place at Carrara Sports Arena 1. In the first game, Kiran had won against Danielle Sino Guemde of Cameroon. Overall a great show for the young blood in Commonwealth Games 2018.
On Day 8 of GC 2018, India has bagged four medals so far including Kiran’s silver piece. Rahul Aware won the gold medal in Men's Freestyle 57 kg event beating Steven Takahashi of Canada while Babita had to settle for a silver medal after losing to Canadian Diana Weicker in Women's Freestyle 53 kg Nordic wrestling. The fourth medal is won by Indian shooter Tejaswini Sawant. She won a silver medal in women’s 50m rifle prone event finishing second to Martina Lindsay Veloso of Singapore.
