Throughout this season of IPL 2018, umpiring standards have come under the microscope. There have been way too many instances where the umpires have given wrong decisions. In fact, during one of the matches, Michael Clarke expressed his displeasure when a legit delivery by Tom Curran was given a no-ball during Kolkata Knight Riders v Mumbai Indians.

Yet another example of poor umpiring emerged during Kolkata Knight Riders vs Rajasthan Royals during Eden Garden earlier today. It was during the first delivery of the 17th over, Prasidh Krishna was bowling to Heinrich Klaasen. The ball landed outside the tram-line and wide delivery was ignored by the umpire and was counted as a dot ball.

However, the umpire’s folly did not go unnoticed by the Twitterati and they slammed him. Internet users took to Twitter and the on-field umpire Nitin Menon. Check out the few tweets below:

#KKRvRR pathetic umpiring continuess..shame,” wrote a Twitter user.

“That was a clear wide. #KKRvRR,” wrote a netizen.

A Twitter user wrote, “Umpiring 🙏🙏🙏 #KKRvRR.”

“How is that NOT a wide???! Poor decision...Could be a crucial dot ball!,” read a tweet.

“Third class umpiring #KKRvRR,” read a post.

“That was a wide. What the heck is going on? #KKRvRR,” read a post.

Talking about the match today, Kolkata Knight Riders won the match against Rajasthan Royals by 25 runs. After winning the match, KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik said, “We were initially under the pump, so good on us to come back," he says. "Credit to Shubman Gill to absorb the pressure. He played some lovely shots. That eased the pressure off me, and then Andre was just special. In these kind of games the score doesn't matter, it's about believing. The par scores don't matter, but just how much you believe. The bowlers have picked their game and have bowled some good balls. Royals do spring a surprise, so you need to hold your nerve and execute your plans. Every game is important this stage. Next game, two good teams competing."
