Mumbai, May 04: It comes as good news for the fans in the city of Kolkata, as the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 Playoffs will now be played at the historic Eden Gardens. Originally scheduled to be played at Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune, the two play-off matches will now be played in the city of Kolkata.

IPL Governing Council Rajeev Shukla said, “The governing council has confirmed that Kolkata will host the Eliminator and Qualifier 2 on May 23 and May 25 respectively.” As per the official schedule of the IPL 2018, the MCA Stadium in Pune was set to host these two matches.

Since Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had to adopt MCA Stadium in Pune as their home ground for their 6 home games seasons, owing to widespread ongoing protests in Tamil Nadu over Cauvery Water Management Board, the venues for IPL Playoffs 2018 venues were ought to change.

There were quite a few options being pondered upon for the shift in IPL Playoffs venue. However, it was the historic Eden Gardens that was selected for the Eliminator and Qualifier 2 games. “We are happy to host the play-off matches and are looking forward to it,” said Cricket Association of Bengal joint-secretary Avishek Dalmiya.

On the contrary, Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede stadium will co-host the IPL 2018 playoffs. Both, Qualifier 1 and the IPL 2018 Final will be played in Mumbai, on May 22 and May 27 respectively.
