Indian Premier League (IPL) is around the corner and all the eyes are now focused on the IPL Auction 2018. The excitement and buzz it as created are quite baffling. In less than 24 hours, the fate of over 500 players will be decided as they go under the hammer to participate in the cash-rich cricketing League. There are a lot of big-ticket players’ – R Ashwin, Ben Stokes, Gautam Gambhir, Ajinkya Rahane, Kieron Pollard, Chris Gayle – doing the rounds and what would be their final purse amount.

There is a pool of players which are out of flavour for their national teams but then hold a prominent place in this format of the game. Players like Eoin Morgan David Miller, Glen Maxwell, Mitchell Starc, Carlos Brathwaite are those players who can turn tables in T20 in a matter of time.

A total of 578 players will be auctioned in the IPL 2018 Auction which will happen for two consecutive days. The original list had over 1,100 players which were later truncated as per the wishes and priorities of the participating franchises. The auction list has the names of over 350 Indian players.

In the fray are also many U-19 Indian players who have impressed with their performances in the ongoing U-19 World Cup in New Zealand. ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT IPL AUCTION 2018:

2018 IPL Auction Venue: Hotel Ritz Carlton, Bengaluru

IPL 2018 Auction Date: January 27 and 28.

IPL Auction 2018 Timings: The auction will go live from 09.00 a.m. and will stretch till the evening hours, with Lunch break in between.

IPL Auction 2018 Telecast Details: The Live Streaming will be hosted by Hotstar and you can also see the Live auction on Star Network from 09.00 a.m.

Rules of IPL Auction 2018:

Rules for Retention in IPL 2018:

1.       Team Composition

a.       Maximum of Five players can be retained, of which –

b.      Maximum of Three Capped Indian players allowed

c.       Maximum of Two Overseas players allowed

d.      Any number of Uncapped players allowed

 

2.       Salary (Payment) Rules for Retention Players:

a.       Earlier Fees Cap for Retention Players

(First -12.5 Cr., Second – 9.5 Cr., Third – 7.5 Cr., Others 5.5 Cr. and 4.5 Cr. respectively).

b.      IPL 2018 Retention Fees

1. If a team chooses to retain a total of 3 players, then salary will be:

(First - Rs. 15 Cr., Second – Rs. 11 Cr., and Third – Rs. 7 Cr.).

2. If a team chooses to retain a total of 2 players, then salary will be:

(First - Rs. 12.5 Cr., Second – Rs. 8.5 Cr.).

3. If a team chooses to retain only a player then salary will be:

(First -Rs. 12.5 Cr.)

IPL 2018 Auction Squad Size: Teams will be allowed to have a minimum of 18 players; the maximum limit is 25 players.

IPL 2018 Auction Reserve Price:  There are several price brackets for uncapped players this IPL season. They will all have Rs. 10 Lakh boost in accordance to previous editions of IPL.

New Price Brackets for Uncapped Players:

A. Players in lower category have their base price set at Rs. 20 Lakh,

B. layers in upper categories have their base price set at Rs. 30 Lakh, and Rs. 40 Lakh.

New Price Brackets for Capped Players: For capped players, there haven’t been any changes made to the Upper categories, but the lower category has received a boost this season.

A. Players in lower categories have their base price set at Rs. 50 Lakh, and 75 Lakhs (Up from Rs. 30 Lakhs & Rs. 50 Lakhs previously).

B. Players in upper categories have their base price set at Rs. 2Cr, Rs. 1.5 Cr, and Rs. 1Cr.

As the clock tickers, the excitement level of players and fans will only increase. A lot of International, National, and U-19 players are in fray and are aiming to pouch huge amount of money. It will be interesting to see which franchises opt for which players and which player will be the highest paid player – will it be Virat Kohli or someone else who can break the record fee set by Royal Challengers Bangalore.
