Mumbai, May 4: The Bombay High Court has today barred Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) from using water from Pavana river. According to a report on ANI, it has said that it's illegal to use Pavana's water for maintaining cricket pitches. Last month, Bombay High Court had barred MCA from using water from Pavana dam for maintaining the Pune cricket stadium for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 till further orders.

This was announced post IPL matches of Chennai Super Kings were shifted from Chennai to the MCA's stadium in Pune in the wake of the ongoing protest against the Centre’s negligence for the formation of Cauvery Management Board. Earlier, they had issued a notice to MCA and had sought a reply on how will they arrange water for maintaining the ground for IPL matches in Pune, according to an ANI report.

The notice was issued on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by the NGO Loksatta Movement in 2016, which had maintained that 60 lakh litres of water was proposed to be used to maintain the pitches in the three venues nominated for IPL-2016 in Maharashtra. In April 2016, the High court had directed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to shift all the IPL matches to be held in Maharashtra post-April 30, outside the state due to the severe drought condition.
