Celebrating the current month as ‘Women’s History Month’, the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) paid rich tribute to former India Prime Minister Indira Gandhi at a Monday Night RAW episode on March 12, 2018. Honouring India’s first and only female Prime Minister, WWE aired a minute-long video live during its latest episode. The video was aired after a segment between RAW Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss and Nia Jax.

The video shows how Indira Gandhi led India and her leadership during turbulent times. Being the first and only female Prime Minister of the country, she was a skilled diplomat and a fierce negotiator.

In this short video clip of Indira Gandhi being honoured, she is hailed for her leadership that brought about Green Revolution in India. The WWE recognises her devotion towards India’s environment and agricultural self-sufficiency. Indira Gandhi was also hailed as a Champion of Civil Rights.

The tribute of Indira Gandhi shows a glimpse of her famous speech made in 1966, where she talked about being the first servant of the land (India). WWE mentions about her courageous leadership during the dangerous era and is proud to honour Indira Gandhi during Women’s History Month.

The WWE also posted a tweet on their official Twitter account. The tweet read, “WWE honours the first and only female Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi, in celebration of #WomensHistoryMonth.” Indira Gandhi was India’s second longest serving Prime Minister after his father Jawaharlal Nehru.

Indira Gandhi served as the prime minister for two terms, i.e. from 1966 to 1977, and from 1980 until her assassination in 1984. She was named as the ‘Woman of the Millennium’ in the year 1999 in an online poll organised by the BBC. The tribute comes as a surprise for the WWE Universe and the sport’s fans, but it is well-known that the WWE is trying aggressively to spread its wings in India and is this a step in the right direction or not is for time to tell. For now, Indira Gandhi being honoured by WWE comes as a proud moment for the WWE fans in India.
