Golden moment continues for Indian Table Tennis team in Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. After women, it is Indian men who have bagged the gold medal in TT team event in CWG 2018. India beat Nigeria 3-0 to win a historic gold medal and complete a double at the 21st Commonwealth Games on Monday. Experienced player A Sharath Kamal led his side to win the gold medal at GC 2018 and take India’s medal tally to 18 including 9 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze and sit comfortably at the third place in CWG 2018 medal table and team standings. Table Tennis Men’s Team followed the footsteps of their female counterparts and emerge victorious in Gold Coast Games. Sharath Kamal and Co. had registered a shocking victory over defending champions Singapore in the semi-finals 3-2 and they replicated their performance in the finals to win secure the gold. Table Tennis has not exactly been a hunting ground for India but the two teams proved their mettle with their dedicated and no-nonsense approach.
For veteran Indian Paddler Sharath Kamal, it is completing a full circle. He had won the men’s team event in 2006 Commonwealth Games held in Melbourne, Australia. Twelve years later, the player has guided his team to win another gold medal in TT in Gold Coast, Australia. For Sharath, the multi-sport event Down Under is proving to be a lucky connection and Indian fans could not be more happy clapping at his feat. Earlier in the day, shooters Jitu Rai, Om Mitharwal, Apurvi Chandela and Mehuli Ghosh along with weightlifter Pardeep Singh had added medals in India’s count. Jitu Rai bagged gold, Mehuli and Pardeep secured silver medals while Om and Apurvi claimed bronze medals to keep India in the top three ranks of GC 2018 medal table. Good going India!
