At the end of Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, India's medal tally read 66, meaning they surpassed the medal count of previous edition of CWG in Glasgow, Scotland. On the last day, Saina Nehwal won a gold medal beating fellow countrywoman PV Sindhu in all-Indian women's singles final match to bag India's 26 gold medal, which is 11 more than Glasgow 2014's tally of 15 gold. In the Gold Coast Games, India scripted several historic wins and new records such as first gold medal in Table Tennis after paddler Manik Batra won her women's singles finals. Neeraj Chopra clinched first gold medal in javelin throw. With great show in sporting events such as shooting, wrestling and weightlifting, India ended their GC 2018 campaign on a positive note with 26 gold, 20 silver and 20 bronze medals. India had fielded a total number of 227 participants hoping to better their record of in the previous outing Glasgow 2014 and they did it in style. India managed 15 gold, 30 silver and 19 bronze medals to take their medal tally to 64 medals. They had finished fifth behind table-toppers England, Australia, Canada and Scotland. 2018 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXI Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Gold Coast 2018 kicked off on April 4 with a grand opening ceremony. The sporting action began from April 5 and lasted until April 15. A total number of 71 Commonwealth Teams are participating with 275 medals in 19 sports up for grabs. This was the first time, an equal number of medal events are kept for both men’s and women’s discipline making GC 2018 the first multi-sport event to achieve parity.
