India made their 12th appearance at Summer Paralympic Games when its athletes participated at the Tokyo Paralympics 2020. It turned out to be India’s best campaign till date in the Paralympic Games history. India won a total of 19 medals at the Tokyo Paralympics 2020 and surpassed their previous best tally of four medals each at 2016 Rio Paralympics and 1984 Paralympic Games. India managed to secure five gold medals alone at the Tokyo Paralympics 2020. At Tokyo Paralympics 2020 Avani Lekhara became the first Indian to win a medal in Shooting in the Paralympic Games. India competed in nine sports at the Tokyo Paralympics 2020 as 54 para-athletes represented the country. India have now sent their largest-ever contingent for Paralympics as 84 para-athletes will represent the country at Paralympic Games 2024 in Paris. These athletes will compete in 12 sports.
