Indian sprinter Hima Das bagged silver medal in Women’s 400m event at Jakarta Palembang 2018 Asian Games on Sunday. The 18-year-old nicknamed Dhing Express finished second behind Bahrain’s Nase with a time of 50.09 in the category. Hima who had earlier broken national record in qualifying heat, broke the national record again in the gold medal match with a time of 50.79 seconds. It was always going to be tough for Hima, as Naser has run sub-50 times five times this year, while the Assamese’s previous personal best was 51 seconds. Earlier, in the qualification stage Hima clocked a time of 51.00 seconds to finish second in Heat 1 once again behind Salwa Naser of Bahrain. Hima’s silver medal is second for India in athletics after Tajinderpal Singh Toor won gold medal in men’s shot-put event. India’s medal tally currently stands at 34 with 7 gold, 8 silver and 19 bronze medals.

Earlier in the day, continuing their brilliant performance, ace Indian singles shuttlers Saina Nehwal and P.V. Sindhu entered the semi-finals to assure two historic medals of the Asian Games on Sunday. Olympic silver medallist Sindhu edged past Thailand's Nitchaon Jindapol 21-11, 16-21, 21-14 while Saina defeated Ratchanok Inthanon of Thailand 21-18, 21-16.
